IT'S DISNEY WEEK, GUYS.
Exactly one week from now is Walt Disney's 111th birthday (did anyone else picture Bilbo Baggins saying that or is it just me?), and until then, I will try to get in as many Disney posts as possible within the week.
With that, I'm going to start with a countdown of my 10 favorite Disney songs. Now, I think it's safe to say that I've seen every Disney animated movie known to man, so I had to pick from a shit ton of songs. It was ridiculously hard, but I was eventually able to narrow it down to my top 10:
10) "Beauty and the Beast" (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)
I fucking LOVE Beauty and the Beast. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember having a few Belle dolls growing up, and I'm positive that I've made them dance to this song on more than one occasion.
9) "He Mele no Lilo" (Lilo and Stitch, 2002)
Lilo and Stitch is hands down my favorite Disney movie of all time. Literally. I have that movie pretty much memorized. Squirt and I randomly quote this movie all the time. On the DVD, they had behind the scenes footage of hula dancers dancing to the song, and dammit I had that dance memorized (with the little rhythm I possess).
8) "If I Never Knew You" (Pocahontas, 1995)
My relationship in a nutshell. We had this huge fight one time, and I found this song just less than a month before we called it quits. First time I heard it (since I only have the original 1995 version of the movie and this was in the remastered version), I burst into tears. Hell, I always burst into tears or get super depressed whenever I hear this song. It just brings back memories. And it's just that romantic of a song. I'm sure if I wasn't in a relationship at all, I would still burst into tears.
7) "You'll Be in My Heart" (Tarzan, 1999)
When I got my tonsils out in 2000, I had to stay home from school for about 2 weeks (give or take). I can't remember if it was my mom or grandma that got me Tarzan for when I got out of the hospital, but I watched this movie for two weeks. So it was obvious that I would know the lyrics to every song in the movie after two weeks. And plus, Phil Collins is just awesome.
6) "A Whole New World" (Aladdin, 1992)
"A whole new wooooorrrrrrllllllddddd........"
5) "Hakuna Matata" (The Lion King, 1994)
This song is as old as I am. Ew.
But in all honesty, I absolutely love this song. I would've put every song from TLK on this list, but I wanted "variation", so I had to pick one. It was between this and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", but thinking back on which song I sang more as a child, it was this one.
4) "Under the Sea" (The Little Mermaid, 1989)
This song puts me in a good mood. And they used it as a minigame in Kingdom Hearts II. If it's good enough to be used in Kingdom Hearts II, it's good enough to be on my list. And that's that.
3) "Reflection" (Mulan, 1998)
Identity crisis. My life in a nutshell. Plus it's Lea Salonga. Who could ever go wrong with Lea Salonga?
2) "Friends on the Other Side" (The Princess and the Frog, 2009)
I will admit that The Princess and the Frog isn't a Disney movie I have seen to the point of memorization, but I do admire the music that they used in this movie. And I know that the little kids and their parents weren't too happy with this, but I love Dr. Facilier as a villain. I will admit that all the voodoo and underworld shit was a smidge bit on the creepy side for a Disney movie, but it still impressed me nonetheless, especially with the animation in this song.
1) "I See the Light" (Tangled, 2010)
I love this song. I sing/hum it in the shower. I envision singing this with my next boyfriend. This song is the most played Disney song on my iPod. And it's Zachary Levi's actual singing voice. And it's yummy.
I just wanted to say thanks for this post. I'm at WDW this week as Walt and I share a birthday. I did a google for his 111th birthday and your post came up. Watching these songs brought tears to my eyes and reminded me even more of why I'm here. Thank you!!
