Day 6: Your Thoughts on mainstream music.
I have a love-hate relationship with mainstream music.
Music-wise, I'm not one who tends to follow the crowd very often. The music on my iPod is about 90% rock artists/songs that nobody's heard of or only heard one of their songs, plus some J-Pop, Disney, and multiple Kingdom Hearts and Legend of Zelda soundtracks. Now, I have my fair share of pop and the only rap I have are The Lonely Island and a few Eminem and Kanye West songs.
Lately I haven't been giving in to mainstream music. "Call Me Maybe" only amused me because of the many parodies that spawned from it, which also goes for "Gangam Style", yet I still refuse to put them on my iPod because I would rip my ears off my head if I heard those songs one more time. However, there are a few mainstream artists that I have given in to. I have a few Katy Perry songs (hell, I even made "Teenage Dream"my ex's ringtone), and even a couple Nicki Minaj songs ( even though I can't stand her music, but I just couldn't get them out of my head).
You know a mainstream artist that I can't stand with every fiber of my being? Taylor Swift. Ask my friends about how I fell about Taylor Swift and they will start cracking up. I don't even know what came me to hate her so much; she just gives off this vibe that makes me so goddamn annoyed with her and every little thing she does. My mother punishes me in the car by blasting Taylor Swift on the radio. There were a couple times I was tempted to jump out of the car. Not even kidding.
Overall, mainstream music is a love-hate thing for me; either I love the songs or hate them. Everyone has their own taste in music. I know people who absolutely refuse to listen to mainstream, people who only listen to mainstream, and people like me who have a little bit of both.
In the end, it's your decision on what kind of music you want to listen to.
